Discerning God's will...Moving to action...Join Us Wed. the 27th!

Discerning God's Will...

In the first century, when the church faced important decisions, they gathered together to seek for prayer, reading of Scripture and discussion to discern the will of God. We see examples of this in Acts 1 when a replacement for Judas was necessary and in Acts 15 at the Jerusalem Council.

When Mission Columbia started, Fairview faced an important decision as well: How would God want us to be Jesus to Columbia? To answer this question, we decided we should do the same thing the early church did and seek the will of God by coming together. So, the church came together for a series of gatherings involving a shared meal, Scripture reading, prayer and discussion to discern God’s will for our congregation as to how to be Jesus to Columbia.

Moving To Action...

As a result of those gatherings, several groups with needs were revealed to us & so we decided to form 3 Ministry Teams to best meet the needs of those groups:

1. The Open Hand Team will seek out to reach the needs of & teach the homeless, hungry, addicted, incarcerated, college students, etc.

2. The Loss Team will seek out to reach the needs of & teach those displaced by abuse, those with financial problems & those waiting in the hospital, etc.

3. The Children & Their Families Team will seek out to reach the needs of & teach those with no church home, single parents, those needing marriage support / divorce recovery, pregnant women, etc.

Each of these Teams is in the process of: (1) planning one event for the summer to serve and teach those they are trying to reach, and (2) planning a longer-term ministry to begin in the Fall to serve and teach those they are trying to reach.

Join Us!

Want in on the conversation & the adventure?

Then join us this Wednesday at 5:45 in the Fellowship Hall when the Open Hand Team and Loss Team will meet. Bring your own supper.

The Children & their Families Team will meet at the J&K Carpenter home at 6:30 on Sat. May 30.

Everyone is welcome, see you there!.... and please be in prayer so we might serve and teach like Jesus would!

Grace and Peace,

Brian
